   Tacca's twin Fountains

Pietro Tacca, one of Giambologna’s pupils, created in the XVII century two fountains for Leghorn’s wet dock by the Grand Duke Ferdinando II De’ Medici’s appointment. Once cast, the Grand Duke liked them so much that he wanted them to be placed in Florence, where they still are today. However, the city of Leghorn, from time to time, claimed the two beautiful sea inspired fountains. It wasn’t until 1956 that the original moulds were found and Giorgio La Pira, then Mayor of the city of Florence, while announcing the finding again of the moulds, ordered a faithful copy of them to the “Marinelli” foundry in order to donate it at last to the city of Leghorn.
