He was born in 1944 in Sikeston, Missouri. After studying at the University of Kansas becomes Assistant Technical Graphics at Kent State University, where he taught from 1965 to 1970 the age of 26, with his wife do a study tour in Europe and Asia, through which abandons the United States, and in fact he lives and works in Spain. He has done solo shows in many European countries and the United States. His work is characterized by a realism imbued with magic and dream-like quality. Parkes has in fact studied Eastern and Western esoteric doctrines, and his figurative language is determined by a set of knowledge, which includes the Kabbalah and Tantra, made in a form that flow from his imagination but accessible: strange animals encounter mysterious winged women and good and evil are fighting their eternal conflict. Fascinated by graphic techniques, over the past decade Parkes approached the sculpture also becoming expert in the technique of lost wax bronze casting.
