Born in Città di Castello (Perugia) in 1889, Cappelletti studied in Florence where he trained as a sculptor at the Academy of Fine Arts under the guidance of Libero Andreotti. He successively worked with some of the most important names of the time and specialised in creating animals and subjects for fountains. His masterpieces also include a crèche embellished by a fine array of decorations. From 1939 to 1964 he worked with Fonderia Artistica Ferdinando Marinelli as sculptor and mould-modeller.
