Victoria Avery, of the Fitzwilliam Museum, has been in the international news recently as part of the team that announced the discovery of Michelangelo bronzes – two men riding panthers. These bronzes, which are part of the Rothschild collection, would be the only Michelangelo bronzes that exist.
On June 22nd, Dr. Avery will be a guest of Fonderia Artistica Ferdinando Marinelli to discuss the process of determining the Michelangelo authorship of the panthers at a conference to be held at Palazzo Tornabuoni. She will also be given the opportunity to examine the foundry casts taken from the original clay figures of Michelangelo’s Night and Day sculptures by his student, Danti (now in the Medici Chapel).
