THE POSTHUMOUS CASTING FROM THE ORIGINAL MODEL OF GHIBERTI’S GATES OF PARADISE
After two years of intense craftsmanship, the Gates of Paradise—a posthumous cast from the original model created by the Fonderia Artistica Ferdinando Marinelli of Florence—has been officially completed. Fonderia Marinelli announces the completion of this extraordinary posthumous cast in bronze and pure gold, crafted using historical molds taken from the original masterpiece by master Lorenzo Ghiberti.
The creation of the monument demanded the utmost technical rigor and absolute adherence to ancient Renaissance techniques. The production process began with lost-wax casting using the original molds owned by Ferdinando Marinelli Jr. Every single wax panel was finely retouched by hand to restore the anatomical precision and perspective depth envisioned by Ghiberti. Following the casting, chasers worked for months on each of the ten biblical panels to refine every sculptural detail before proceeding to the majestic final gilding in pure gold.
Standing as a monumental structure nearly 6 meters high, the artwork bears witness to the continuity of Florence’s grand sculptural tradition. Below, you can watch a short video showing the key stages of craftsmanship and the majesty of the completed Gates of Paradise by Fonderia Marinelli.
