MICHELANGELO IN SILVER

The Ferdinando Marinelli Artistic Foundry has begun an artistic collaboration with Treasure Investments, USA, where the museum of Michelangelo’s bronze works cast in Florence has been created.

But equally interesting are the lost wax castings in silver: the Ferdinando Marinelli Artistic Foundry supplied the wax, obtained from casts made directly on the originals in the 1930s, for the execution of a single example of Michelangelo’s Pietà which is in the Basilica of St. Peter’s in the Vatican. It is the first time that a work of such prestige has been cast in silver, it is the first and only example of silver Michelangelo’s Pietà existing in the world.

This will be followed by the casting in silver, always in a single copy and always from waxes taken from the original casts of Ferdinando Marinelli’s collection, of other works by Buonarroti: the Battle of the Centaurs conserved at the Casa Buonarroti in Florence, and, incredibly, the full-sized David original.
