Was born in Fontebuona of Florence in 1836, the city where suddenly died in 1886 during a dinner with the family. He studied sculpture at the Academy of Florence. After the period of his departure as a volunteer for the campaign of Italian Independence in 1859, he resumed his studies. Controversial, unconventional, acrimonious, from 1863 to 1867 he was in Naples, then returned to Florence, he joined with Telemaco Signorini the group of the Macchiaoli. In 1870 he went to Paris and then in London, he returned to Florence where he made the sculptures for the facade of Santa Maria del Fiore.
