The mould is utilised to obtain a positive copy in empty wax of the work. The author of the work or another artist will brush up the wax to fix defects and imperfections. The colour red is added to the wax for the purpose of facilitating just this touching up. The thickness of the wax will determine the thickness of the bronze because it is this wax that will be “lost”, replaced by the liquid bronze.
